For Debussy and Ravel, the soul of French music lay in a more elegant age, and they sprinkled sonic stardust over a dream of the baroque. Each of Chopin’s 24 Preludes, meanwhile, is a miniature world of fantasy, colour and deep emotion – and according to one critic, Llŷr Williams plays them “much as the composer is thought to have played them”.
